Foyer
Remodeling
Why are we
remodeling the Sanctuary?
The
Pastoral Staff list our top two space needs as:
1.
Foyer/fellowship space. Our hallways are over-crowded on Sunday mornings.
Combined with the need to move congregations in and out of the services efficiently
we really sacrifice the fellowship component, especially in greeting and
getting to know our visitors.
2.
Classroom space. There is a shortage of classroom space during second hour
Sunday mornings and during Friday nights.
We
do not believe that we can remodel our way out of the need for a new building,
but given the length of time it takes to get a new building, we feel we need to
do something to help alleviate our current space constraints.
What is the
proposal?
Basically,
the plan is to convert the stage seating (where the AV equipment is currently
located) into a foyer space as well as class room space. The foyer will
connect into the hallway on the first floor to create open space. The upstairs
can be divided into 2 class rooms.
Two
options for the upstairs room:
1.
Use
as 2 classrooms
2.
Use
as balcony seating
The
immediate space need dictates that we should convert to class rooms. We are
short on classroom space on Friday nights and 2nd hour on Sundays.
Adrian
Chan is drawing some sketches for us. We will post them on this site once they
are available.
What is the
Concern?
The
biggest concern is the space available for worship service, especially for the
Mandarin service. Today, we keep about 60 chairs in the stage area for
seating. In addition, the new plans call for the A/V booth to be moved into
the main sanctuary, taking additional space. Also, the pews against the back
wall will no longer exist.
While
it is possible to have people sit closer together for service, we know that not
all people will feel comfortable in crowded spaces. We are trying out for 3
weeks to see how people respond sitting in a more crowded space. The chairs in
the back have been removed; please do not attempt to sit in the stage area.
If
you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to email building@tcccc.org or speak to one of the deacons.
